World Illustration awards) - Part 6

I recently entered the World Illustration Awards run by the AOI. I decided to enter this image, which I made from the word 'rust'. I sketched several compositions and ideas to respond to this word.

I went for a rusty hull of a boat in a boat yard. I decided to put it in a boatyard to emphasise the old and deteriorating sense to the word. I created a boat graveyard underneath with linework and textures to imply detail where needed, I also added texture to the background to imply a marsh or swampland. I added characters to give the scene life. The two boys at the bottom of the image and the seagulls on the boat add movement and interest to the scene, provoking thoughts of a story.

I think the characters could have been integrated better, which I have looked at and rectified in future illustrations.
